Aboriginal Community Owned & Managed

Our History

Our History

Since 2003, SEARMS has been providing housing and related support for the Aboriginal Community to the Capital Region and Far South Coast.

It started as a Co-Operative that consisted of seven Aboriginal Housing Owners as follows:

  • Batemans Bay Local Aboriginal Land Council
  • Batemans Bay Aboriginal Corporation (Pre Budawang Aboriginal Corporation)
  • Bodalla Local Aboriginal Land Council
  • Bodalla Aboriginal Housing
  • Cobowra Local Aboriginal Land Council
  • Mogo Local Aboriginal Land Council
  • Ulladulla Local Aboriginal Land Council

Operating as a Regional Management Model under the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO), SEARMS extended its services to other Aboriginal Housing Owners from Wallaga Lake to Yass, Queanbeyan, Goulburn, Ulladulla and Nowra.

In 2011, SEARMS moved from a Co-Operative to an Aboriginal Corporation under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island) Act with a skills-based board.

SEARMS has played an integral part in the supply and development of Aboriginal housing opportunities in New South Wales, which closely aligns with cultural, community and family orientated principles.
